John Osstyn's 05/05/01 visit to Classics Reborn

John Osstyn has visited the ClassicsReborn factory and asked that I post these pictures, DaveG of Classics Reborn has given his permission to post these publicly.  I'm hosting these photos only for informative purposes!  There's some potentially useful info to robot builder in some of these shots if you look closely.  There are a few "familiar" parts lying around, as well as original stuff.  Some notable parts are missing from these photos (the bubble?!) which I was hoping to get a glimpse of.

If you have questions about who or what is represented in these photos I suggest you email John Osstyn.
Best!

Here's a copy of John's letter to the B9Talk list describing his photos:
Hello everyone,
Well this past Saturday I made a visit to Mannatron to check up on my Icons robot and look at the progress of the Classics robot. I took lots of Pictures and sent them this morning to Mike Joyce he sad he would put them up on his web page for all to see (Thanks again Mike). The people there were Dave Gielda, Dave McDowell from Classics, Gino from Mannatron and Steve Buscano. Steve worked on restoring the robot from Mystery Island, He builds props in Hollywood for a living. With that said I will try to explain some of the pictures you will see and let you guys take it from there.

You have to understand the first prototype is still under construction so you are just going to see parts. I was told without a doubt that a finished Classics robot will be at the Comic con in Novi Micigan this May. You are going to see a picture of how easy it is going to put a collar section together when the kits become avail from classics Mr.Gielda put one together in about 15 min. Now there is a picture of a square chest button that Mr.Buscano said was how the buttons really were on the original Note that there is a small frame around the front of the button, when I say the front I'm talking the side you would push if you were going to turn the button off/on, I'm still not sold on the idea that this frame was there but I'll leave that up to you guys to decide. next you will see some pics of the robot's brain that Steve brought (and Classics plan on using) next to the Icons robot brain, the brain is smaller then the icons brain and smaller then the one the club used to offer. you will also see photos of a pair of Icons claws next to Classics claws there is a big difference here Classics is still not happy with the claws and plans more work on them, they are going to add the inside recess you see in the photos. I was told that there are no original claw molds. Now for the other icon owners that were told your torso is smaller then the original I took side by side pics of an Icons torso that Classics pulled from the icons molds and the Master they plan on using I can't see a difference maybe you guys can. I was told if I measured I  then would be able to see a difference. Ok you will also see the arm molds notice the angle at the end I was told that the arms actually attached to the torso with some sort or washer/ring type device and not just pulled through the torso.

A note on Steve Buscano. He did work on the original he had a photo album there with many pictures of him working on the robot while it was still in the Mystery Island state. You will see a few pictures I held up and took pictures of. The rest of the pictures he would not let me take because there are other people in the photos, so for now you will have to take my word I saw the pictures and he was in them working on the robot.

Bottom Line I think the Classics Reborn Robot is going to be about as accurate as you can get, and once the parts are avail people are going to be very pleased. Classics had hundreds of photos, lots of blue prints and lots of reference material from Steve Buscano, Mr Gielda was going over ever inch of the robot while I was down there, I was starting to get a headache by the end of the day.

Well that's it for now enjoy the pictures and post your thoughts.

Thanks
John Osstyn
